يطور العلماء والأطباء والجرَّاحون في مايو كلينك أفكارًا وابتكارات بشأن زراعة الكبد تجعل عمليات زراعة الكبد أكثر أمانًا ومتاحة لعدد أكبر من الأشخاص. إنهم يشاركون بنشاط في إجراء الدراسات المختبرية والتجارب السريرية والبحوث الأخرى عن كل جانب من جوانب الحالات المتعلقة بعمليات زراعة الكبد.

  • تصوير المرونة بالرنين المغناطيسي. طوَّر أطباء وباحثو مايو كلينك هذه التقنية المبتكرة كوسيلة غير باضعة لفحص تندّب الكبد. في يوم من الأيام، قد تقلل هذه التقنية من الحاجة إلى خزعات الكبد لدى الأشخاص المصابين بأمراض الكبد.
  • أدوية كابتة للمناعة. يحقق هذا البحث في تأثير الإصابة بوساطة الأجسام المضادة في عمليات زرع الكبد والكلى، وكيف يمكن أن تؤدي عملية زرع الأعضاء المتعددة إلى نتائج أفضل.
  • الوصول للحد الأقصى للمُتبرِّعين بالأعضاء. وجد أطباء عمليات الزراعة أن الأشخاص المصابين بسرطان الكبد لم تختلف درجة استفادتهم من عمليات زراعة الأعضاء سواءً كان المتبرعون المرضى توفوا بسبب الموت القلبي أو الموت الدماغي.
  • العلاجات بالخلايا لمرض الكبد. يقدم هذا البحث علاجات جديدة محتملة للعديد من أمراض الكبد، وقد يحسن نجاح عملية زراعة الكبد.
  • نظام الفرز. اقترح باحثو مايو كلينك في الأصل نموذج المرحلة النهائية لمرض الكبد وصمموه واختبروه. يعطي هذا النظام الأولوية للأشخاص الذين ينتظرون عملية الزرع بناء على شدة حالتهم المرضية، ومدى احتمالية حاجتهم الماسة لعملية الزرع.
