Mayo Clinic doctors participate in research to improve care for people with breast cancer.

Mayo Clinic doctors and researchers are investigating new ways to support people with breast cancer during and after treatment.

Areas of research include:

  • Following breast cancer survivors to understand their needs through the Mayo Clinic Breast Disease Registry, which tracks thousands of patients during and after breast cancer treatment.
  • Supportive therapy clinical trials offering the latest approaches to symptom control during breast cancer treatment, including pain management and chemotherapy side effects.
  • Survivorship clinical trials studying strategies for improving the health of breast cancer survivors, including wellness coaching and integrative medicine.
  • Reducing side effects of treatment so that breast cancer survivors can recover more quickly, including using advanced radiation therapy, such as proton beam therapy, to target radiation treatment near the heart for left-sided breast cancers and reducing the risk of heart disease in those undergoing chemotherapy.
